Exploring the role of technological healthcare innovations in medicines adherence – a panel discussion
Mon, 20 Feb 2012 12:06
Exploring the role of adherence in developing healthcare innovations is the focus of Atlantis Healthcare’s second lecture in the Bright Brekkie series on February 23, 2012 at Auckland’s Wintergarden Pavilion.
A panel discussion featuring two speakers from the University of Auckland’s robotic clinical trial team, facilitated by health psychology specialist Doctor Kate Perry, will discuss the latest technological innovations in healthcare as they relate to the area of medicines adherence, plus highlight findings from the robotic clinical trial.
Associate Professor Bruce McDonald will introduce Charlie, a HealthBot currently being trialled in a local aged care facility. The trial aims to understand how robotic technology can help improve medication adherence, drug safety and monitoring among elderly patients. He will also describe the psychology and health research being performed to date on patients involved with the robotic technology trials.
Professor Jim Warren will discuss how information systems are being used to promote medicines adherence in the development of technological ideas.
Atlantis Healthcare’s Director of Group Clinical and Research, Grant Taylor says “The robotics lab at the University of Auckland is extending our knowledge of how we can use technology to help people take better care of their health. Their work has great promise in helping us develop yet more effective ways of supporting patients to take their medication as prescribed. Their findings will also help Atlantis Healthcare improve how it designs interventions to speak most effectively to the patients on Atlantis programmes.”
Attendees from the pharmaceutical, medical devices, insurance and elderly care industries with a specific interest in medication adherence and the latest innovations in healthcare have been invited to the breakfast presentation.
Following the presentation, attendees are invited to participate in a field visit to Selwyn Village to see the HealthBots in action before they are returned to Korea. Professor Bruce Macdonald will be on hand to answer any questions. A second field visit may be arranged depending on numbers.
Further information, including topics and dates relating to upcoming Bright Brekkie lectures will be advised over the coming weeks. If any members of your team or organisation are interested in being included on future invitation lists, please contact us with their details.
